FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why Test And Tag?

It is important we keep VIC homes and businesses safe. Failure to test and maintain electrical equipment in a safe condition may result in injury or death. Every employer has a duty of care to ensure their working environment and employees are safe, this duty of care was established via the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1984.

Is testing and tagging a workplace requirement?

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 and Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995 those persons having control of a workplace or access to a workplace must ensure that all portable plug-in electrical equipment and RCDs are safe and appropriately inspected, tested and maintained by a competent person.

Will it be costly?

The cost of testing your equipment will be based on the amount of equipment tested and the location of your establishment. Our qualified and friendly staff will be able to assist with providing a quote over the phone.

How often do we have to test?

The frequency of testing is dependent on the equipment being tested and the environment it is used in. AS/NZS 3760:2010 specifies the generally observed safety inspection and maintenance standards for Australia. This includes the safety inspection and testing of single polyphase (240v–415v) portable electrical equipment, and, machinery connect to supply by flexible cord which is currently in-service, available for re-sale or hire. Inspection and testing intervals can range from daily, monthly, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 2 years and up to 5 yearly testing schedules.

Testing and Tagging

That is where Ideal Star Services Testing and Tagging can Help!

Step One- possibly the most important

Our experienced licenced technicians carry out a thorough visual of all items to be tested and tagged to check for any electrical safety defects that may render them dangerous and unsafe to use.

Step Two

Once the technician has identified which test should be applied to the appliance, it is then plugged into our market-leading test and tag machine and the test is then run. Item details and results whether pass or fail are electronically recorded to the pat testers’ internal memory. The tag is then dispensed from our automatic printer containing all relevant information.

Step Three

The tag is then applied to any equipment that passes the testing procedures identifying that the items are safe to use. The tag also states the date tested and the date when the next test is required.

Any items that fail the testing procedure are tagged with a danger Tag and then reported to the relevant person and placed into the previously discussed quarantine area.

Step Four

All data is then downloaded to Ideal services Test and Tag’s secure online database where customer reports are then generated and sent electronically or added to our online database. Customers are then provided with a secure login to view or print their test and tag reports as required, our purpose-built software will also automatically remind our customers when items are due to be retested.
